The leatherback sea turtle is the largest of all sea turtles. Leatherbacks lack a hardened shell and instead have a thick “leathery” skin covering their carapace, making them easy to identify.
These sea turtles eat jellyfish and can travel very far around the oceans, migrating thousands of miles following their prey or going back to a nesting beach.
A mostly oceanic species, they can be observed in offshore waters of Louisiana.
