Loggerhead Sea Turtle

The loggerhead is one of the most common sea turtles and has a reddish to yellow-brown shell.  They have large block-like heads and can reach an average size of 500 pounds.

Loggerhead turtles inhabit open ocean and shallow coastal waters in warm climates.  They will often enter marshes, estuaries and coastal rivers.  They feed on both aquatic plants and assorted animals such as crustaceans, mollusks, jellyfish and fish.

They are common in the waters of Louisiana and are protected like all of the sea turtles.
