Stone Crab

The stone crab is a very robust, thick-shelled crab with large crushing claws.  They have a whitish shell with mottled brown markings.  These crabs are delicious, but only the claws may be harvested.  The stone crab then grows new claws and is therefore a more sustainable fishery.

They live in coastal and marsh areas and like to hide in structures and crevices.

Stone crabs are caught in baited traps similar or the same as blue crabs.  They can also be caught by divers.
