The yellowtail snapper is a beautiful snapper. The back and upper part of its sides are bluish to olive with yellow spots. The lower sides are silvery with pink with yellow stripes. A yellow stripe runs the length of the fish along the lateral line to a deeply forked bright yellow tail fin.
Yellowtail snapper are relatively rare in Louisiana. Â They are typically not a target species but are taken as incidental harvest when angling for other reef fish species.
