Tackle Tips: Bass fishing is best in the adjacent canal and bayou systems during spring and fall. Jigs and spinner baits are the most frequently used tackle for largemouth bass fishing in False River. Night-time fishing provides an excellent opportunity for largemouth bass fishing. Many of the piers are lighted and attract baitfish, which attracts bass. Hybrid striped bass are frequently caught by anglers trolling or fishing crankbaits off of the end of piers in the main lake. Catfish and bream species can be fished for under a cork around the piers with live or artificial baits.

Other Notes: Largemouth bass is the most popular sportfish targeted in False River. The lake is annually stocked with Florida strain LMB. Fish are managed with a 5 fish bag limit/14Ó minimum length limit. Even though False River is an oxbow of the Mississippi River, it is inactive (no connection with MR). Thus, the water level in False River remains relatively stable, allowing for year-round access. Hybrid striped bass are also routinely stocked in False River, and offer additional angling opportunities. Bluegill and redear are abundant in the lake and canals, and frequently can be caught among the numerous piers and pilings in the lake. Lastly, False River is an excellent lake to target channel catfish. Channel catfish can also be found among the pilings and piers that abound in False River. The shoreline of False River is highly developed with houses, camps, and businesses. Most of the cover and structure found in False River is in the form of piers, pilings, and docks. Many of the camp owners place structures around their own piers, often using Christmas trees, brush piles, etc.
