Tackle Tips: Jigs, spinner baits, and soft plastics are the most frequently used tackle for largemouth bass fishing in the Lake Verret, Grassy, and Palourde complex. Shiners and tube jigs are the most frequently used baits when targeting crappie. Catfish and bream species can be fished for under a cork with live or artificial bait around the numerous cypress trees and stumps in the main lakes. Target water depths of 2′-3′ and greater.
Other Notes: The shoreline of the main lakes are lined with numerous cypress trees , knees, and stumps. Cover in the adjacent canals and bayous is primarily in the form of submerged vegetation, cypress stumps, and brush piles. Largemouth bass is the most popular sportfish targeted in the system. Fish are managed with a 7 fish bag limit/no minimum length limit. Sunfish are abundant in the lake, bayous, and canals, and can frequently be caught among the numerous cypress trees that line the rim of the main lakes. The Lake Verret, Grassy Lake, and Lake Palourde complex is an excellent lake to target channel catfish. Channel catfish can also be found among the cypress trees that abound in the system. Bowfin offer additional angling opportunities in this system, and can frequently be caught in backwater sloughs and bayous.
